Longan fruit trees are a staple crop in the tropics and the Canadian province of Ontario has developed a technology that could one day be used to make it into a food additive.
Cannabis is one of the most widely grown plants in the world, and the industry is in the midst of a massive growth spurt, with the US and the UK both expecting to see cannabis use grow by 50 percent in the next five years.
The technology behind the Longan plant is simple.
The leaves are stripped from the fruit, which are then dried and ground to a fine powder.
The powder is mixed with water and allowed to solidify for several hours, then filtered, dried, and packaged in a tube to be used for the production of the cannabis oil, which can be as little as 1 gram and as much as 2 grams per batch.
This process is called resin extraction, and it has been used by several different companies, including Canadian Canola Oil, the Longa family company, and Canadian Hemp Foods.
The technology also has the potential to make cannabis a foodstuff, as the oil can be mixed with other ingredients and then dried to form a foodlike substance.
“We’re not saying the Longans’ technology is perfect,” said Longan co-founder and CEO Robert Longan in an interview with Ars.
“But it’s certainly something that’s a step in the right direction.”
While Longan is a relatively new company, the company is known for its hemp-based products, which use the same technology as its Longan product.
Longan uses hemp as a feedstock for its products, and has even developed a hemp oil, the Hemp Food Extractor, which is designed to help improve the nutritional profile of its products.
The company is also experimenting with other materials, including ceramics and glass, to create new hemp-derived products.
The Longan company has also invested in the technology, partnering with Canadian company, Hemp Foods Inc., which is already making hemp-powered cooking oil and packaging materials for the food industry.
“The process we’re using to extract the cannabinoids from the hemp is pretty similar to the process that’s used in the process of making the oils,” said Jason Longan, co-owner and CEO of Longan.
“We’re trying to make the oils a little more efficient, and reduce the amount of time required for extracting and packaging the cannabinoids.”
While hemp is grown in Canada and is widely used in a number of countries, it is banned in the United States.
Cannabis, which has a high concentration of THC and other cannabinoids, has been legal in the US since 1996, but it remains illegal to possess or grow in any form.
Canada’s Hemp Foods is working on the Longann process, and its products are expected to begin shipping in 2018.
