Canned fruit is a popular food item in Canada.
However, some Canadians may have to wait until September if they want to enjoy a fresh apple, peach, or cherry on the cob.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has warned that the apple and peach are not safe for consumption in Canada, according to CBC News.
The agency has issued a recall of canned fruit and some other food items to help consumers determine if they may be contaminated with E. coli.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued the same warning about canned fruit.
CFIA said in a news release that the agency will send out a voluntary recall alert in September.
Consumers can call the CFIA hotline at 1-800-CFIA-0117 or visit the agency’s website.
